Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell says that her side are still striving to be better in the closing weeks of the season.
Some impressive form from The Seagulls over the last couple of months has helped the club secure their status for another year but the message throughout the squad is that the season is not over yet.
When speaking in her pre-match press conference, Powell said that there was still a desire to achieve more this season starting with their Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Bristol City at The People’s Pension Stadium on Sunday.
“They want to do well and it is really great that they still want to look up,” said Powell. “Arguably, I think mathematically we are save and I think that the girls still want to be better.
“It is easy at this stage in our position to think that the season is nearly over, holiday, rest. The clear message is that the season is not over until it’s over.
“Everybody has bought into that because they want to do better.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s lowest point of the season came against The Robins when they lost 3-0 at Twerton Park in a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at the end of January. Powell says that this weekend provides her side with an opportunity to right the wrongs of that game.
“They’ve got some real quality Bristol,” Powell said. “I think they’ve shown that in not just the game against us but in other games where they’ve picked up points and won games that they shouldn’t have won.
“We’ve got them twice, we’ve got them the last game of the season but of course, we want to showcase ourselves in a better way than we did certainly when we went away and it gives every player the opportunity to do that.”
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Bristol City kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday.
