Arsenal trio unlikely to return before the end of the season

Arsenal head coach Joe Montemurro says that injured trio Lisa Evans, Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Jen Beattie are unlikely to return to action before the end of the season.

The Gunners take on Aston Villa in their final Barclays FA Women’s Super League game of the season on Sunday before signing off their 2020/2021 campaign with a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth round tie against Crystal Palace next weekend.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Montemurro said that injured trio Evans, Schnaderbeck and Beattie will not be rushed back into action and it is now all about being fit for next season for those players.

“Not likely,” Montemurro said when asked about the prospect of the three players returning before the end of the season. “Jen and Viki definitely not, Lisa has started back on the pitch but it is probably not worth pushing her at this point.

“They can now start planning for the season ahead and getting themselves right.”

Montemurro has had it tough when it comes to injuries this season with The Gunners rarely having a full compliment of players fit for selection. The Australian went on to say that his side are facing no new injury concerns ahead of the game against Villa at Meadow Park this weekend.

He added “Everyone is fighting fit, everyone is in really good shape at the moment.

“The last few weeks have culminated in us being able to keep the squad together and keep it healthy and ticking over.”

Arsenal’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon and will be available for fans to stream live on the FA Player.
