Goalkeeper Shanell Salgado has announced the news that she is leaving FA Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic this summer.
The 27-year-old German stopper joined The Addicks ahead of last season but played back up to Katie Startup before missing the latest campaign through a serious injury.
Salgado made a handful of appearances for Charlton Athletic in the domestic cups but she failed to register an outing for the club in the FA Women’s Championship.
With the 2020/2021 campaign now having come to an end, Salgado has announced her departure from Charlton Athletic. In a post on her personal Twitter account, the player has also confirmed that she is making good progress towards fitness and is looking forward to her next challenge.
It has been a tough season with Injury and unfortunately my time at @CAFCWomen has come to an end. I am back to being the keeper I am and motivated than ever. Looking forward to what awaits next. Excited for the next chapter.

Salgado got her first taste of second tier football in 2018/2019 during a spell with Charlton Athletic’s rivals Crystal Palace. The keeper made nine FA Women’s Championship appearances for The Eagles.
The following summer, Salgado joined Charlton Athletic and she was an unused substitute on 11 occasions throughout the curtailed 2019/2020 FA Women’s Championship season.
With first choice keeper Startup having moved to Brighton & Hove Albion last summer, Salgado was ready to fight for the jersey until she ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in pre-season. The Addicks initially brought former keeper Startup back on loan as a short term replacement before Eartha Cumings made the number one jersey her own.
