Chelsea midfielder Guro Reiten has not been selected by Norway head coach Martin Sjögren for the nation’s upcoming friendlies against Sweden and The Netherlands.
The 26-year-old is one of three key players missing from the Norway squad with Reiten’s injured Chelsea teammate Maren Mjelde and Bareclona’s Caroline Graham Hansen also absent.
The Norwegian Football Association, The NFF, announced head coach Sjögren’s 24-player squad earlier today. Full details of Reiten’s omission were not provided, although it is likely to be as a result of Chelsea’s hectic end of season schedule. Reiten and her Norwegian teammate Graham Hansen both played parts in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final and the pair are likely to have been given extra rest by national team boss Sjögren.
Despite Reiten’s absence, there is still Barclays FA Women’s Super League representation in the squad. Departing Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeepers Cecilie Fiskerstrand and Aurora Mikalsen have been selected while retiring Everton full-back Ingrid Moe Wold has been handed her final call-up. Manchester United’s Maria Thorisdottir has also been included along with Reading’s Amalie Eikeland.
Norway will take on Sweden at the Guldfågeln Arena in Kalmar on Thursday 10 June before facing The Netherlands in Enschede five days later.
Martin Sjögren har tatt ut troppen som reiser på samling med privatlandskamper mot Sverige og Nederland. Kampene spilles 10. juni og 15. juni 🇳🇴
