Charlton Athletic keeper Cumings handed first Scotland call-up

Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Eartha Cumings has received her first senior call-up to the Scotland squad for next month’s international friendly fixtures against Northern Ireland and Wales.

The 21-year-old keeper has enjoyed something of a breakthrough season with The Addicks in which she featured in 16 of their 20 fixtures in the FA Women’s Championship.

The Scottish Football Association announced interim manager Stuart McLaren’s 23-player squad for next month’s friendlies against their fellow Home Nations Northern Ireland and Wales earlier today with Cumings being one of four players to receive a first senior call-up. She is joined in the squad by Rangers’ Brianna Westrup, AC Milan’s Christy Grimshaw and Hibernian’s Leah Eddie.

As usual, the Scotland squad features several English-based players. Goalkeeper Cumings is one of 11 squad members who are currently playing their football south of the border. Defenders Kirsty Smith (Manchester United) and Sophie Howard, midfielders Lucy Graham (Everton), Kim Little (Arsenal), Caroline Weir (Manchester City), Christie Murray (Birmingham City) and Chloe Arthur (Aston Villa) and   forwards Claire Emslie (Everton), Erin Cuthbert (Chelsea) and Kirsty Hanson (Manchester United) are all in the squad.

Scotland face Northern Ireland in Belfast on Thursday 10 June before travelling to Llanelli to take on Wales on Tuesday 15 June.
