Arsenal trio amongst five English-based players named in Dutch squad

Arsenal trio Jill Roord, Danielle van de Donk and Vivianne Miedema are amongst five English-based players selected in the Dutch squad for their June international friendlies against Italy and Norway.

The Orange Lionesses face Italy in Ferrara on Thursday 10 June before hosting Norway in Enschede on Tuesday 15 June.

Head coach Sarina Wiegman has selected a 25-player squad for the camp which was announced by the Dutch Football Association, the KNVB, earlier today. Five English-based players were included, those being Arsenal’s Roord, Van de Donk and Miedema, Manchester United’s Jackie Groenen and Inessa Kaagman of Brighton & Hove Albion. In the case of Roord, she has been called up for the last time as an Arsenal player before she joins VfL Wolfsburg in a deal which was agreed earlier this month.

Arsenal forward Miedema could edge to within three appearances of 100 senior caps should the Dutch all-time record goalscorer feature in both games against Italy and Norway while Manchester United midfielder Groenen is just one cap short of reaching the 70 mark.

The Netherlands will be looking to build on April’s 5-0 victory over Australia when they return to action next month. Five different players got on the scoresheet in that game including Roord, Groenen and Van de Donk.
