Sheffield United goalkeeper Fran Kitching has signed a new one-year deal with the club.
The 23-year-old Rotherham-born stopper was an ever-present for The Blades in the FA Women’s Championship this season. She kept a clean sheet in every other game as Neil Redfearn’s side ended the season with the joint-best defensive record in the FA Women’s Championship.
With head coach Redfearn now building his squad for next season, it has today been confirmed that goalkeeper Kitching has signed a new one-year deal with the club. Sheffield United announced the news in an official club press release this afternoon.
Kitching was initially on the books at Sheffield United as a 10-year-old. The player spent seven years with The Blades before moving to Chelsea. She briefly returned to Sheffield United in 2018 before joining Liverpool. Kitching sealed a third spell with The Blades by re-joining the club last summer.
After signing her new deal, Kitching told Sheffield United’s official media team “Being back at home has been a huge thing for me and I can’t wait to build again after my first year. It’s gone amazingly given what I’ve been through and I came here a bit low on confidence, but that’s built up and shown a lot in my performances through the season.”
Kitching joins Tamara Wilcock, Sophie Walton, Charley Docherty, Maddy Cusack and Rhema Lord-Mears in signing new contracts with Sheffield United this summer.
