Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle came off the bench to feature in Spain’s 3-0 international friendly victory over Belgium this evening.
The 22-year-old defender came on for Barcelona’s Andrea Pereira to play the final half-hour for the Spaniards in Alcorcón.
Despite dominating the proceedings from the first whistle at the Estadio Municipal de Santo Domingo, it took Spain 43 minutes before they finally broke the deadlock. Aitana Bonmati played a neat ball through to Mariona Caldentey and she coolly looped her shot over Nicky Evrard into the far corner of the Belgian net.
Spain scored a second goal just three minutes into the second half with Alexia Putellas netting from the penalty spot. Manchester United defender Batlle then came on before Spain completed the scoring with Bonmati curling in a sublime third from the edge of the box.
The victory sees Spain extend their winning run to nine matches while Jorge Vilda’s side have also kept nine consecutive clean sheets. Spain have not lost since the 2020 SheBelieves Cup while you have to go back two-and-a-half years to find their last home defeat.
Spain are in action again on Tuesday evening when they take on Denmark in an international friendly fixture in Alcorcón.
