Chelsea forward Erin Cuthbert scored the only goal of the game as Scotland defeated Wales 1-0 in Llanelli this evening.
The young striker capitalised on a mistake from home keeper Laura O’Sullivan to net the winner for her side at the Parc y Scarlets.
Angharad James brought a good save out of Lee Alexander in the Scotland goal in the first half before Kayleigh Green headed a chance wide. At the other end, Cuthbert drilled an effort from range against the crossbar as the two sides went into the break having played out a stalemate.
The second half again saw both sides enjoy plenty of attacking play. The decisive moment came just before the hour when Welsh keeper O’Sullivan failed to clear the ball from a Gemma Evans back pass and Cuthbert nipped in to score from an open goal situation.
To their credit, Wales pushed hard for an equaliser during the final half-hour but they struggled to seriously test Alexander as Scotland held out for the win.
Scotland have now won three of their last four games under the guidance of interim head coach Stuart McLaren. The Tartan Army are excepted to appoint a permanent head coach ahead of the start of FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying in September.
