Arsenal pair Danielle van de Donk and Vivianne Miedema and Manchester United midfielder Jackie Groenen have been named in the final Dutch squad for Tokyo 2020.
The trio are all key members of Sarina Wiegman’s side therefore their inclusions on the plane to Tokyo comes as no real surprise.
Miedema is The Netherlands’ record goalscorer while Van de Donk and Groenen have almost 200 senior international caps between them.
In other news, departing Arsenal midfielder Jill Roord has also selected. She will be wearing the green of VfL Wolfsburg by the time that the Olympic Games begin. Chelsea-bound centre-back Aniek Nouwen has also been included while Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Inessa Kaagman has been called up as one of four reserve players for the tournament.
The Dutch Football Association, the KNVB, announced Wiegman’s selection on their official website earlier today.
The Netherlands have been drawn in Group F for next month’s Olympic Women’s Football Tournament. The FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019 runners-up will take on China PR, Brazil and Zambia in their three group games.
Wiegman’s side have been preparing for the Olympic Games with two international friendly matches this month. The Orange Lionesses fell to a shock 1-0 defeat to Italy on Thursday before bouncing back in style as they defeated Norway 7-0 in Enschede last night.
