Former Bristol City forward Salmon nets winner on debut for Racing Louisville

Former Bristol City forward Ebony Salmon netted the only goal on her debut as Racing Louisville defeated Houston Dash in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) this evening.

The 20-year-old England international swapped the Barclays FA Women’s Super League for the United States last month with Salmon signing a two-year deal with the NWSL’s expansion team.

The forward was named as a substitute for this evening’s match at the Lynn Family Stadium but she made an immediate impact by netting the game’s only goal just seconds after her introduction. Salmon picked up the ball on the edge of the Houston Dash box before forcing her way through the opposition defence and striking a shot across goal into the far corner of the net.

The game also saw former Manchester City defender Gemma Bonner make her debut for Racing Louisville. The centre-back played the full 90 minutes, picking up a yellow card early in the match.

The victory sees Racing Louisville leapfrog Houston Dash into seventh place in the NWSL standings. Christy Holly’s side are unbeaten in their first three home games of the season and are yet to concede a goal on home soil. The club are back in action again on Thursday when they take on North Carolina Courage at the Lynn Family Stadium.
