Former Charlton Athletic defender Olivia Smith has joined newly-promoted FA Women’s National League South Premier Division club Ipswich Town according to reports on The Tractor Girls’ official club website.
The 21-year-old was one of 13 players released by The Addicks at the end of the season with the South East Londoners preparing to go full-time and the defender has quickly found herself a new club.
It has today been confirmed that Smith has joined Ipswich Town ahead of their debut season in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division. She joins a club who made history in signing their first professional deal with a player earlier this month.
Smith started her senior career in England with West Ham United after returning home following a short spell in the United States. The player struggled for first team opportunities during her time with The Hammers before Smith joined second tier club London Bees.
The defender left The Bees to join Charlton Athletic early this season and she went on to make 14 FA Women’s Championship appearances for The Addicks throughout the campaign. Smith was offered a new full-time deal at The Oakwood at the end of the season but she instead opted to move on.
Smith’s FA Women’s National League South Premier Division debut for Ipswich Town could be less than eight weeks away with the 2021/2022 season set to begin on Sunday 15 August.
