England international keeper Hampton to leave Birmingham City

Birmingham City goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has confirmed that she is leaving the club this summer at the end of her current contract.

The 20-year-old England international will leave the Blues after five years with the club in which she has made 50 league appearances.

Hampton announced the news via an emotional post on her personal Twitter account earlier today.

Hampton made her Birmingham City debut against Doncaster Rovers Belles in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup in 2017 and she was then handed her league debut at Liverpool just six days’ later. The youngster was initially an understudy to Ann-Katrin Berger but Hampton has made the number one jersey her own since the German moved to Chelsea midway through the 2018/2019 campaign.

Hampton appeared in every one of Birmingham City’s 21 fixtures in this season’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League. She kept four clean sheets as the Blues avoided relegation despite enduring a challenging campaign.

With Hampton’s contract set to expire this summer, Birmingham City offered the player an extension, however, she has opted to move on for a fresh challenge and to further her development.

Hampton becomes the second player to leave Birmingham City this summer with youngster Heidi Logan having been released. The club are waiting to hear back from 12 members of the 2020/2021 squad about whether they will be signing new deals for the new season.
