Bristol City confirm departure of midfielder Humphrey

Bristol City midfielder Carla Humphrey has left the club at the end of her contract according to reports on The Robins’ official club website.

The 24-year-old has spent the last four years with the club, making 76 appearances for Bristol City in all competitions.

The player’s contract with Bristol City expired at midnight and it has today been confirmed that Humphrey has become a free agent. She becomes the tenth player to leave The Robins following their relegation to the FA Women’s Championship.

Humphrey started out in North London with Arsenal before joining Bristol City ahead of the 2017/2018 campaign. The player has been a regular in the Bristol City side throughout her time at the club. Last season saw the midfielder feature in all-but-one of her side’s 22 matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League as The Robins slipped through the relegation trapdoor. Only Belgian international forward Yana Daniels made more league appearances for Bristol City than Humphrey in 2020/2021.

A number of Bristol City’s most-used players from last season have now departed. The likes of Jemma Purfield, Gemma Evans and Daniels have left the club, leaving a significant hole in the team which will need to be addressed by new interim head coach Lauren Smith in the coming weeks.
