Teenage midfielder Filis joins West Ham United

Teenage midfielder Mel Filis has joined West Ham United according to reports on The Hammers’ official website.

The 18-year-old has moved to The Chigwell Construction Stadium following a spell with former second tier side London Bees.

Filis spent one season with The Bees in which she featured in every FA Women’s Championship fixture but she was unable to help prevent the club from slipping into the FA Women’s National League.

With Filis’ contract at The Hive having come to an end, the player has today signed on at West Ham United. After the player completed her move she said “I’m looking forward to coming into the environment as a young player to really kick-off my pro career and play in the WSL. I like the intensity of the playing style, which will really suit me because I like to play a high energy game.

“I’m really excited to get going and can’t wait to get the season underway.”

Filis came through the academy system at The Hammers’ Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal and she was one of The Gunners’ most highly-rated young players. The midfielder struggled for first team opportunities at Meadow Park but she will now be hoping to prove her quality at new club West Ham United.
