Former Arsenal and West Ham United defender Vyan Sampson has signed a new contract with FA Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic according to reports on The Addicks’ official website.
The 25-year-old once-capped Jamaican international initially joined Charlton Athletic on a short term deal during the second half of last season after returning to England following a spell in San Marino. The player has impressed the club’s management team of Karen Hills and Riteesh Mishra enough to be offered a new contract for the upcoming season.
Sampson made nine appearances in a Charlton Athletic shirt during the second half of last season. The player clearly made a big difference with The Addicks picking up points in six of those matches.
After signing on at The Oakwood for another year, Sampson said “I’m really happy and really excited, especially off the back of last season. I’m just really happy to get started now.”
Sampson becomes Charlton Athletic head coach Hills’ second signing of the summer. Hills has also brought midfielder Elisha Sulola back to the club following a successful loan spell at The Oakwood last term. Two players have signed new professional deals with the South East Londoners, those being goalkeeper Eartha Cumings and defender Rachel Newborough.
