Former Charlton Athletic defender Gotch joins Portsmouth

Former Charlton Athletic defender Jaime Gotch has found a new club with the player having joined FA Women’s National League South club Portsmouth according to reports on Pompey’s official website.

The 21-year-old centre-back was one of 13 players to leave The Addicks earlier this summer with the club preparing for full-time football.

A number of those players who were released have now joined new clubs, including Gotch who sealed a move to third tier side Portsmouth last night. Gotch links-up with an ambitious Portsmouth team who have recruited well so far this summer and a return to the FA Women’s Championship with her new team in the not-so-distant future is not a forgone conclusion.

Gotch started her career with Reading after coming through their well-established academy system. The player struggled to break into The Royals’ senior team and she joined Charlton Athletic two years ago. During her time with The Addicks, Gotch made 10 appearances for the club in the FA Women’s Championship. The defender made all of her appearances last season during the first half of the campaign. Gotch failed to gain further opportunities after Charlton Athletic made several signings in the January transfer window.

After a frustrating season in 2020/2021, Gotch will be hoping to really kick on at new club Portsmouth.
