OLYMPIC STATS: Arsenal ace Miedema tops goal involvement stats after two rounds

After two rounds of group matches at the Olympic Games there is a familiar name at the top of the goal involvement statistics, Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema.

Miedema has netted six goals at the tournament so far, four in The Netherlands’ 10-3 win over Zambia and two yesterday as the Dutch drew 3-3 with Brazil. The Arsenal star is one of two players to have netted six goals so far, the hugely impressive Zambian forward Barbra Banda being the other.

In terms of goal involvements, Miedema has managed 3.67 goal involvements per 90 minutes so far. Miedema beats Banda by 0.67 goal involvements per game on the basis that she has managed to net her six goals in 33 minutes less than the Zambian goal machine who has played every minute of her nation’s action so far.

In third place is Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius who has contributed three goals in 95 minutes of football (2.84 goal involvements per game) while her teammate Lina Hurtig has 2.12 goal involvements per game after scoring twice in 85 minutes.

Fifth place is currently shared by three players who have been involved in two goals per game so far. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr has netted four goals in two games while Zambia’s Rachael Kundananji has scored one and assisted another but she has played just one game so far. China’s Wang Shuang has four goals in two games, one of which came from the penalty spot.

The final round of group matches takes place on Tuesday with plenty at stake for the vast majority of participating nations.
