Former Spurs full-back Leon joins Real Betis

Former Tottenham Hotspur full-back Lucia Leon has joined Real Betis according to reports on the Spanish club’s official website.

The 23-year-old Madrid-born defender left the North Londoners at the end of last season after spending eight years with the club.

Leon spent time last season on loan at Madrid CFF and it has today been confirmed that the player will again play in the Spanish Primera Division with Real Betis. The defender’s move to the Luis del Sol will see her link-up with former Spurs joint-head coach Juan Amoros who is now in charge of the Seville-based club.

After completing her move to Real Betis, Leon said “I am very happy and super excited. I can’t wait to get started.

“I have heard a lot of good things about the club and the fans, I am very excited to meet them and to become one of the family.”

In her time in England with Spurs, Leon helped the club to climb the league pyramid from the National Division up to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The defender was the most longest-serving player to leave Spurs at the end of last season. She made 12 top flight appearances for Spurs, scoring one goal.

Leon joins a Real Betis side who were 12th in the Spanish top flight last season.
