Free football at the Stafflex as Sheffield United travel to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday

The novelty of midweek pre-season football is on the agenda on Tuesday evening when FA Women’s Championship club Sheffield United travel to the Stafflex Arena to take on third tier side Huddersfield Town.

Fans are able to attend the match which kicks-off at 7.45pm while Huddersfield Town have confirmed that free admission is on offer for all.

Huddersfield Town will provide Neil Redfearn’s side with a difficult test with The Terriers having topped the FA Women’s National League North table last season prior to the early curtailment of the campaign. Manager Jordan Wimpenny recently departed, however, the West Yorkshire side have been in good form in pre-season, beating Fleetwood Town and Stockport County on their travels and holding second tier side Blackburn Rovers to a 1-1 draw on home soil.

Sheffield United travel to Huddersfield after winning four out of four in pre-season so far. The Blades have seen off Burnley, Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and a University of Nottingham side in the first four matches of their seven-game pre-season programme. Redfearn’s side were most recently in action against Middlesbrough at Bedford Terrace on Sunday where they won 7-0.

The Blades lost the services of Jade Pennock, Katie Wilkinson and Melissa Johnson over the summer but other attacking players have stepped up in pre-season with the goals largely being shared between Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Rhema Lord-Mears and highly-rated youngster Lucy Watson, a player who could be set for a real breakthrough season.

Huddersfield Town begin the new FA Women’s National League North season at Nottingham Forest on Sunday while Sheffield United still have two more pre-season friendlies pencilled in after the midweek trip to the Stafflex Arena with Redfearn’s side set to play Leicester City and Coventry United.
