Aston Villa complete the signing of West Ham United full-back Pacheco

Aston Villa have completed the signing of full-back Maz Pacheco from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee according to reports on the club’s official website.

The 22-year-old Ormskirk-born defender moves to The Banks’s Stadium after spending one season with The Hammers.

Pacheco made 17 Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for West Ham United with 11 of those outings coming as starts. Just five West Ham United players made more league appearances for the club last season.

It has this evening been confirmed that Pacheco will be wearing the claret and blue of Aston Villa rather than West Ham United this season. The player has become new Villa head coach Carla Ward’s seventh summer signing.

After acquiring the services of the defender, Ward said “Maz is someone who comes with great energy and a wealth of WSL experience. She’s someone we’ve monitored for a long time and I’m delighted to bring her in. She’ll add a lot of quality to this group.”

Pacheco is formerly an England youth international who has represented The Young Lionesses up to and including Under-21 level. The player is yet to force her way into the senior squad. The full-back is experienced at Barclays FA Women’s Super League level with Pacheco having also previously turned out for Liverpool, Doncaster Rovers Belles and Reading at that level of football.

Villa could field Pacheco for the first time when they face Everton in a pre-season friendly at The Banks’s Stadium on Saturday.
