Arsenal ease to UEFA Women’s Champions League first leg victory over Slavia Prague

Arsenal have eased to a 3-0 UEFA Women’s Champions League Round 2 first leg victory over Slavia Prague at Meadow Park this evening.

Nikita Parris, Kim Little and Vivianne Miedema got the goals for The Gunners as they put themselves in a strong position ahead of next week’s second leg.

Parris broke the deadlock just 94 minutes into her home debut, the England international coolly heading home a Steph Catley delivery.

As you would expect, Arsenal were dominant throughout the first half and full of energy after their early goal and they were given a golden opportunity to double their lead on the half-hour when Caitlin Foord was fouled by Slavia Prague captain Diana Bartovičová in the area. Little stepped up to take the resulting penalty kick and she made no mistake in beating Olivie Lukášová from 12 yards.

Arsenal were again the stronger side in the second half but they were finding it more difficult to test Lukášová in the Slavia Prague goal. Dutch international forward Vivianne Miedema was one of three changes to be made by Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall just after the hour and she made her mark 10 minutes later when she beat the offside trap and lofted the ball over Lukášová into the net.

The North Londoners pushed for a fourth goal in the closing minutes of the match but were made to settle for their three-goal advantage. Eidevall’s side will be very confident of completing the job in Prague next week.
