Manchester United full-back Batlle provides two assists as Spain see off the Faroe Islands

Manchester United full-back Ona Batlle created two goals as Spain defeated the Faroe Islands 10-0 in Torshavn this evening in their opening FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifier.

The 22-year-old defender has made an impressive start to the new season at club level and the player has taken that good form with her into the national team with Batlle enjoying a really positive outing this evening in a Spain shirt.

It took Spain just seven minutes to break the deadlock at Tórsvøllur through Amaiur Sarriegi before Battle got the first of her two assists when she played Irene Guerrero to score.

Patricia Guijarro then saw an effort strike the woodwork before Battle created a chance for Sarriegi to score, an opportunity which she gratefully took.

Spain really cranked things up in the second half and they added a further seven goals to their tally. Alexia Putellas made it 4-0 before the Spaniards added four further goals in the space of nine minutes with Sarriegi adding two more along with efforts from Lucia Garcia and Guijarro.

Mariona Caldentey netted Spain’s ninth goal before Laia Aleixandri rounded-off the scoring with a strike deep in second half stoppage time.

Spain continue their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign against Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday evening.
