Chelsea forward Harder becomes Denmark’s record goalscorer after netting against Malta

Chelsea forward Pernille Harder has become the all-time record goalscorer for the Danish national team after scoring in their 7-0 victory over Malta this evening.

The 28-year-old has spent the last five months tied on 65 goals with fellow Danish legend Merete Pedersen but Harder has now finally netted her record-breaking goal as Denmark got their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign off to a flyer in Viborg.

Sanne Troelsgaard opened the scoring for the Danes after 14 minutes before Signe Bruun netted the game’s second goal nine minutes later. Denmark went into half-time three goals to the good thanks to a goal from former Aston Villa forward Stine Larsen.

Harder’s big moment came two minutes into the second period when she fired the ball home after Troelsgaard had seen an effort blocked. The forward’s strike was quickly followed up by another Bruun goal as Denmark went 5-0 up.

Everton defender Rikke Sevecke then scored a sixth before Sara Gedsted Thrige Andersen rounded-off the scoring for Denmark a minute from time as they ended the game 7-0 winners.

Denmark continue their FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023 qualifying campaign on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Baku to take on Azerbaijan.
