The opening two rounds of matches in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League have produced plenty of drama and excitement with no less than 39 goals being scored in 12 games.
From big winning margins to controversial late goals, fans have been given plenty of goalmouth drama to keep them entertained.
Who has hit the goal trail and who is the most dangerous when heading towards the opposition goal or lurking in the box? FAWSL Full-Time have taken an in-depth look at the statistics from the opening two rounds of matches and here is all you need to know.
In terms of goals scored, Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead lead the way on three goals while Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Aston Villa’s Remi Allen and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Inessa Kaagman all have two. The other 30 goals have all been scored by different players.
Chelsea forward Pernille Harder has registered the most shots on goal so far (10) while Kerr, Natasha Flint, Lucy Staniforth and Ellen White have all had eight attempts. Kerr and Flint lead the way in terms of shots on target (five). Miedema, Mead, Manchester City’s Janine Beckie and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Danielle Carter have all registered four shots on target.
In terms of shots on goal per 90 minutes, it is a Tottenham Hotspur player who comes out on top, that player being Kit Graham (6.59 shots per 90 minutes). Kerr is second (6.49 shots per 90 minutes) while White is third (6.21 shots per 90 minutes). Kerr comes out on top for shots on target per 90 minutes (4.05) while Graham is second (3.29) and Beckie is third (2.71).
Seven players have scored from their only shot on goal so far this season while 38.46% of this season’s goals scored have come from players who have managed just one shot on target across the two games (15 players).
Moving on to average shooting distance, Everton forward Valerie Gauvin has taken aim the closest distance to goal on average (4.0 yards) while three players have averaged shots on goal from 5.0 yards, those being Arsenal’s Katie McCabe and Jen Beattie and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Victoria Williams. The furthest average shooting distance in the opening two rounds of games is held by Aston Villa’s Olivia McLoughlin with her only effort coming from 36.1 yards.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League returns with the third round of matches next weekend with Manchester United’s meeting with Chelsea and Arsenal’s home fixture against Manchester City arguably being the big games of the weekend.
