Manchester City boss Taylor pleased with home reward after beating Leicester City

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that he is pleased that the club have been handed a home draw in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-finals.

The Cityzens have been rewarded with a tie against Chelsea in the last four after defeating Leicester City in their quarter-final tie at The Academy Stadium this evening.

Speaking in the post-match press conference in which FAWSL Full-Time were present, Taylor said that he was pleased to learn that his side will have home advantage in the semi-finals.

“I’m really pleased that we got a home draw,” Taylor said. “It is probably the first bit of good fortune that we have had in the last few weeks.

“We are really happy to be in the semi-final. We have shown that we have taken this competition really seriously, it was really tough for us tonight.

“It’s good to get a home tie regardless of whether it was going to be Brighton, Arsenal or Chelsea. It is important to be here on our home patch and we know that to win a title or a tournament or a trophy, we are going to have to beat the teams that are in-front of us.

“It’s a tough game but for us, it is something that we put to one side until the end of October and start getting some wins in the WSL.”

Commenting on tonight’s 6-0 victory over Leicester City, Taylor said that he was frustrated to see his side make wrong decisions in the first half but he was delighted with his players’ response in the second period.

He said “Second half, I thought our performance was top class. I thought we played okay in the first half but I challenged the girls at half-time to up the ante a little bit. We played a bit safe (in the first half), turned down opportunities for shots and let Leicester off the hook a little bit.

“I thought we played okay but I just wanted us to be probably a little more exciting and in the second half within 20 seconds, we score. I thought the impetus and the effort and the way that we moved the ball was really, really good.”

Manchester City return to Barclays FA Women’s Super League action on Sunday when they host West Ham United at The Academy Stadium.
