Chelsea ace Fleming crowned Canada Soccer’s Player of the Month

Chelsea midfielder Jessie Fleming has been named Canada Soccer’s Player of the Month for October.

The 23-year-old starred for club and country last month and her achievements have not gone unnoticed by Canada Soccer.

News of Fleming’s monthly award win was announced via an official Canada Soccer press release this evening.

Fleming featured in both of Canada’s ‘Celebration Tour’ victories over New Zealand last month. She scored the first goal and was heavily involved in another as Canada won the first homecoming fixture 5-1 while she also played a part in Adriana Leon’s goal in the 1-0 victory over the same opponents in the second game. The midfielder collected the Player of the Match award in the first game.

For her club, Fleming played in five fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, the UEFA Women’s Champions League and in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. She made her first league start of the season in the 2-0 win over Leicester City at Kingsmeadow, assisting Pernille Harder for the game’s opening goal. Fleming also assisted Beth England in the 3-0 Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final victory at Manchester City on Sunday.

Fleming has won her first Canada Soccer Player of the Month award of the calendar year. She is one of two Barclays FA Women’s Super League players to have collected the award this year with Tottenham Hotspur’s Shelina Zadorksy having been crowned Player of the Month in February.
