Arsenal will be aiming to take another step towards the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals when they face HB Køge in their third group fixture in Denmark this evening.
The Gunners have won one and lost one in their group so far, however, they now come up against the rank outsiders and have a great opportunity to kick on.
Ahead of Arsenal’s latest tie in Køge, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the UEFA statistics surrounding the fixture. Here are four facts which relate to Arsenal’s group game against HB Køge.
Arsenal have a good record against Danish opposition
Arsenal are unbeaten in their last three UEFA Women’s Champions League matches against Danish clubs (W2 D1). All three of those games came against Brøndby IF back in 2006. The Gunners defeated the Danes 1-0 in a qualifying tie while they later went on to defeat the same opponents 5-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals, drawing the away tie 2-2 and winning 3-0 on home soil.
Arsenal’s clean sheet record bodes well ahead of this fixture
Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in seven of their last 11 UEFA Women’s Champions League matches. Four of those shutouts have come in their six matches in this season’s competition. In contrast, tonight’s opponents HB Køge have failed to score in their two games in this season’s group stage.
The draw seems a highly unlikely outcome for the two sides
Arsenal and UEFA Women’s Champions League draws should not be mentioned in the same sentence. It has been a decade since The Gunners shared the spoils in European football’s premier club competition. The last time Arsenal drew a UEFA Women’s Champions League match was in November 2011 against Rayo Vallecano (1-1). They have gone 30 European games without recording a single draw.
HB Køge cannot be taken lightly after battle against Barca
On Matchday 2, HB Køge held European champions FC Barcelona to a goalless draw for 63 minutes before finally going down 2-0. No side in the competition last season managed to prevent the Spanish giants from scoring in the opening hour of a match on their way to lifting the trophy in May. Arsenal kept FC Barcelona out for 31 minutes before going on to concede three further goals on Matchday 1.
The UEFA Women’s Champions League group fixture between HB Køge and Arsenal kicks-off at 5.45pm this evening and will be available for fans to stream live on DAZN.
