VfL Wolfsburg v Chelsea – Stat Attack

VfL Wolfsburg and Chelsea will battle it out for the right to qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals when the pair meet at the AOK Stadion on Thursday.

Chelsea go into the final round of group matches top of the group but the outcome of the game against Wolfsburg will have an impact on which teams go through as group winners and runners-up with second-placed side Juventus also being in a strong position.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the UEFA statistics surrounding the fixture. Here are four facts which relate to Chelsea’s group game against VfL Wolfsburg.

Wolfsburg have a strong record across multiple competitions

While Chelsea are domestic quadruple winners, Wolfsburg are in great form themselves. The She-Wolves have lost only two of their last 27 matches in all competitions and have won nine of the last 10 at home, scoring three or more goals in all-but-one of those 10 games.

Wolfsburg’s defence have regularly been breached by Chelsea in previous encounters

Chelsea have scored three goals in their last two UEFA Women’s Champions League matches against Wolfsburg. The Blues defeated the German club 3-0 in the second leg of last season’s quarter-final tie while Emma Hayes’ side drew 3-3 with The She-Wolves at Kingsmeadow in the reverse fixture this season.

Chelsea ended Kingsmeadow thriller with momentum

Chelsea ended the reverse fixture with real momentum after coming back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3. Sam Kerr had given The Blues an early lead but Tabea Wassmuth’s brace, either side of a Jill Roord effort, left the hosts with a mountain to climb. Beth England pulled a goal back before Pernille Harder’s 93rd-minute equaliser rescued her side a point.

Defensive form will bring confidence to Chelsea

Chelsea have now kept three consecutive clean sheets in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage. The Blues have conceded four group stage goals in total, three at home to Wolfsburg and one in the away victory over Juventus. In addition to the three European shutouts, Chelsea have conceded just two goals in 11 games in all competitions.

The UEFA Women’s Champions League group match between VfL Wolfsburg and Chelsea kicks-off at 8pm on Thursday evening and will be available for fans to stream live on DAZN.
