Coventry United Crowdfunder on the verge of hitting first half of target

A Crowdfunder campaign set up to raise funds for those made redundant by Coventry United is on the verge of reaching half of the £10,000 target.

Coventry United’s board of directors informed players and staff of the club’s intention to file for voluntary liquidation on the morning of 23 December. The decision has put 39 employees out of work less than six months after the club opted to turn professional.

Coventry United fan and local fundraiser Michael Mogan MBE launched a Crowdfunder campaign to raise funds for those put out of work by the club six days’ ago. A £10,000 fundraising target was set for the campaign and almost half of that amount has already been raised with the current total standing at £4,848.

Donations have been made from far and wide with the footballing world coming together to help support those players and staff who saw Christmas ruined by the shock news of redundancy. The fundraising has kept pace throughout the week and there is every chance that the £10,000 target will be met or even exceeded in the coming days and weeks.

Coventry United had played 11 games in this season’s FA Women’s Championship prior to the board announcing their intention to place the club in voluntary liquidation. An announcement on the situation including the impact on the league is yet to be made by The Football Association.
