Chelsea v Aston Villa – Stat Attack

Chelsea will be hoping to keep the heat on Barclays FA Women’s Super League leaders Arsenal when they take on Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow this afternoon.

The Blues are five points adrift of The Gunners with two games in-hand. Emma Hayes’ side come up against a team in Aston Villa this afternoon who they have performed well against in recent times.

Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have taken a look at the Opta statistics surrounding the fixture. Here are four facts which relate to Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League clash against Aston Villa.

Three wins, three clean sheets for Chelsea

Chelsea have won all three Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches against Aston Villa, keeping a clean sheet in every game. Their only home game against The Villans was a 2-0 victory in March 2021. The Blues won this season’s reverse fixture 1-0.

Chelsea are Aston Villa’s second least favourite opponents

Aston Villa have only faced Manchester City (four times) more often in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League without picking up a single point than they have against Chelsea (lost all three). Becoming more difficult to beat against the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s elite has to be the next step in Aston Villa’s growth.

Aston Villa boss Ward yet to beat London opposition

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward has never beaten a London club in a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture in 12 previous attempts. The only manager to take charge of more Barclays FA Women’s Super League games against London clubs without winning is Tanya Oxtoby (14 games with Bristol City, 2018-2020).

Villa’s away form offers hope in quest to end Chelsea’s fine record

Aston Villa have won their last two away Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches. In contrast, Chelsea haven’t trailed for a single minute in a home Barclays FA Women’s Super League match this season and have only been behind for 12 minutes in total in their last 20 home Barclays FA Women’s Super League games, during their 2-1 defeat to Brighton last February.

The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Aston Villa kicks-off at 1pm.
