Manchester City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Birmingham City is the latest game to be called off due to COVID-19 this weekend.
The two clubs were set to meet at The Academy Stadium tomorrow afternoon but Birmingham City have been successful in their request to have the game postponed. The Blues have been heavily hit by injuries in recent weeks and it is now understood that they are battling a COVID-19 outbreak in the squad. News of the postponement was confirmed by both clubs earlier this evening.
The fixture is the second in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League to be called off this weekend. Today’s North London derby clash between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur was also postponed due to positive COVID-19 cases recorded in the visitors’ camp. Spurs had been battling a virus outbreak in their squad since Wednesday with their midweek fixture against Chelsea having also been cancelled.
In the FA Women’s Championship, one game has been called off so far with Lewes being unable to name a sufficient team for their trip to London City Lionesses.
All three of those matches which have been postponed this weekend will be rearranged in due course following a consultation between the respective clubs.
