Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts says that his side’s latest opponents Birmingham City still have a very good chance of staying in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
The two sides meet at St Andrew’s on Friday evening with the hosts fighting for their Barclays FA Women’s Super League survival.
Birmingham City are eight points adrift at the bottom of the table with just five games to play but Everton boss Roberts is not writing the Blues off just yet.
“I think that Birmingham have a very good chance of remaining in the league,” Roberts told FAWSL Full-Time when speaking in his pre-match press conference. “They have shown in their performances and in the aggressiveness of their play how brave they are in terms of pressing high.
“They are scoring goals against most teams so while the situation is a difficult one, they certainly aren’t a team to write off. They are rebuilding, they are fighting for their lives and fighting to remain in this league next year.”
Roberts went on to discuss the challenge which awaits his side on Friday evening further, commenting that games involving Birmingham City are so often very tight.
He said “Birmingham are a very difficult team to play against, they are not a team who concede a lot of goals in a lot of games, they are always very tight scorelines, they are always in the game other than a few exceptions maybe against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
“We are expecting a very tough game, we are expecting pressure all over the park and we expect a very tough defensive structure from a team who are really fighting for their lives. We are ready for that fight.”
Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Birmingham City kicks-off at 7pm on Friday evening.
