Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts says that he is excited for this evening’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal at Walton Hall Park rather than fearful of the visitors’ threats.
The Gunners are challenging for the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title but Everton boss Roberts is very much looking forward to the task which awaits his side.
When speaking in his pre-match press conference, Roberts was upbeat about the prospect of taking on one of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s frontrunners.
“It is a tough game but when you are in this league, it is exciting to play against the best,” Roberts said. “It is a very competitive league regardless, every team presents a different challenge and we are playing against an Arsenal team who are right in the hunt for the league title.
“It is going to be a very tough test but surely, those are the games that you want to be a part of, to play the best. That’s the challenge, to go out there and perform, show what we can do and do everything that we can at home in-front of our fans to get a result from the game.”
While Arsenal must win the game to remain in the hunt for the league title, Roberts insists that his team are motivated to end the season very strongly themselves.
He said “The motivation for them is simple, they need to win if they are going to win the league. We are coming up against a team who are used to winning and expect to win and that brings a challenge.
“We expect a tough game. They are fighting to win the league and that will be their motivation. We have our motivation here, we are not here to be passengers in the game. We are at home in-front of our fans, we have a lot to play for ourselves, maybe not a trophy but we want to finish as strong as possible in the league to ensure that the right foundations are in place for next year.”
Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Arsenal kicks-off at 6.45pm.
