Chelsea and Manchester United will be bidding for successful ends to the season when they meet at Kingsmeadow on Sunday.
Chelsea need to win or equal Arsenal’s result to lift the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title while Manchester United must be victorious if they are to have any chance at all of beating Manchester City to the final UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification spot.
Ahead of what promises to be a thrilling final day of the season, FAWSL Full-Time have reviewed the match statistics provided by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to the blockbuster clash between Chelsea and Manchester United.
Manchester United await first victory over The Blues
Chelsea are unbeaten in all four Barclays FA Women’s Super League encounters with Manchester United (W3 D1), winning the reverse fixture 6-1 at Leigh Sports Village. Emma Hayes’ side are one of only two teams that The Red Devils have faced but have not beaten in the competition, Manchester City being the other.
Skinner era yet to produce maximum points in London
Manchester United are winless in five away Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches in London (D3 L2) since a 4-2 victory over West Ham United back in October 2020 under former boss Casey Stoney. All three of the club’s league matches in London this season have ended in 1-1 draws.
Skinner needs to tick Chelsea off personal list
Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has beaten 14 of the 15 teams that he’s faced in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League but has never beaten Chelsea in five attempts (D1 L4). He could become the fourth boss to beat 15 different opponents, along with Emma Hayes (17/17 faced), Nick Cushing (15/15) and Kelly Chambers (15/17).
Kerr yet to score against Manchester United at Kingsmeadow
Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has been involved in 28 goals in 22 home Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances (23 goals, 5 assists), although one of three sides that she’s faced at home without scoring against are Manchester United. There will arguably never be a better time to change that record than this weekend.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Manchester United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
