Manchester City announce departures of goalkeeper Taieb and midfielder Weir

Manchester City pair Karima Benameur Taieb and Caroline Weir will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts this summer according to reports on The Cityzens’ official website.

Taieb and Weir become the latest players to leave The Academy Stadium following the recent departures of Janine Beckie, Georgia Stanway and Jill Scott. Karen Bardsley has also recently announced her retirement.

Goalkeeper Taieb started the season as Manchester City’s third choice goalkeeper but she ended up being thrown into the action with Ellie Roebuck and Bardsley out injured. The 33-year-old featured in a difficult period for the club but continued to display courage and determination in-between the sticks. Taieb made 17 appearances for The Cityzens in all competitions in 2021/2022.

Midfielder Weir is undoubtedly Manchester City’s biggest loss this summer. The Scotland international has enjoyed four hugely impressive years with the club after arriving at The Academy Stadium in summer 2018. Weir has carved out a reputation for scoring wonderful goals for Manchester City, particularly in the derbies against rivals Manchester United. In total, she has scored 38 goals in 124 appearances in a Manchester City shirt. The player has recently been linked with a move to Spain with Real Madrid said to be interested.

Manchester City have thanked both players for their efforts during their time at the club.
