Chelsea extend deals of defensive pair Carter and Mjelde

Chelsea have extended the contracts of defensive pair Jess Carter and Maren Mjelde by a further year according to reports on The Blues’ official website.

The South West Londoners are able to extend player contracts once again after the long-awaited takeover of the club was completed on Monday.

The club announced the extensions of Carter and Mjelde’s contracts this afternoon. Both players will now remain at Kingsmeadow until next summer.

Carter is set to start her fifth season with The Blues having joined the club from their Barclays FA Women’s Super League rivals Birmingham City back in 2018. The England international has cemented her place in the Chelsea team in recent times after being made to wait patiently for regular minutes. The defender is poised to make her 100th appearance for The Blues in 2022/2023.

Norwegian international defender Mjelde arrived in South West London in 2017. Mjelde was one of the first major European exports to represent Chelsea. A whole host of world class internationals have followed her to Kingsmeadow in the later years. Mjelde has been key to the growth of the Chelsea side and she will be hoping to add to her 133 appearances for the club next season.

Further squad updates are expected to be announced by Chelsea in due course.
