Whole host of players leave Watford following relegation

Watford have announced the news that no less than 11 players are leaving the club this summer following their relegation to the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

The Golden Girls issued a squad update via their official club website yesterday confirming that Rosie Kmita, Anaisa Harney, Emma Beckett, Gemma Biggadike, Jenna Legg, Mia Smith, Shauna Vassell, Chiara Meola, Georgia Clifford, Leanne Bell and Rubie Smith are all moving on.

Defender Rosie Kmita is retiring in a bid to pursue alternative career interests while the other 10 players are being released. Watford have confirmed that they will continue to support injured quartet Chiara Meola, Georgia Clifford, Leanne Bell and Rubie Smith through their respective rehabilitation plans.

In addition to those players leaving Watford at the end of their contracts, Corinne Henson, Evie Gane, Juliet Adebowale-Arimoro, Morgan Rogers and Teyah Goldie are returning to their parent clubs following the conclusion of dual-registration arrangements.

Watford were relegated after just one season back in the FA Women’s Championship. The Hertfordshire club were sent down to the non-elite game following a 1-0 home defeat to Coventry United on the final day of the season. Watford were seconds away from survival but Mollie Green struck a 97th-minute winning goal for the visitors.
