Arsenal’s teenage full-back Melis Mehmet has confirmed that she is leaving the club this summer.
The player took to her personal Twitter account last night to confirm her Arsenal exit.
Mehmet has spent the last 11 years with the North Londoners. The defender has represented Arsenal at WSL Academy level and she was involved with the first team in pre-season last year but the player hasn’t made a competitive senior appearance for The Gunners.
With the youngster in need of some first team playing experience, Mehmet spent last season with FA Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses on a dual contract loan arrangement. Mehmet found first team opportunities hard to come by with The Pride but she was a useful squad player who was regularly named on the London City Lionesses bench.
Mehmet’s departure comes just 24 hours on from her Arsenal academy teammate Halle Houssein announcing her exit. Both players have spent most of their young lives with the North Londoners with the pair clocking up an impressive 14 years service between them. Arsenal have announced that senior players Lisa Evans and Viktoria Schnaderbeck are also moving on this summer.
Mehmet will now start the next chapter of her career away from Arsenal. It seems possible that the player could join a club further down the pyramid.
A club that’ll forever hold a special place in my heart & 11 years of my life I’ll never forget
