Birmingham City’s teenage defender Cowie signs professional deal

Birmingham City’s teenage defender Abi Cowie has signed a two-year professional deal with the club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Birmingham City this afternoon.

The 18-year-old was a regular in the Birmingham City matchday squad this season. Cowie was handed five starts for the Blues in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while she was named amongst the substitutes on 15 occasions, twice being introduced from the bench.

Cowie will now look to help guide Birmingham City back to the top flight after dedicating her future to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League’s bottom club for the next two seasons.

After signing on again at St Andrew’s, Cowie said “It feels amazing, especially after spending so long at the Club. It’s been a dream come true.

“I think the pathway at Blues is great, especially the opportunities I’ve been given at First Team this season and last season was brilliant.

“I appreciate Carts (Darren Carter) so much as a coach. I’ve learnt so much from him since he came in. Starting the last six games was great for me, especially in the WSL.”

Cowie is the first player to sign new terms with the Blues in the close season.
