Trio to leave Sunderland at the end of their contracts

Sunderland have confirmed that Maria Farrugia, Eve Blakey and Daisy Burt are all leaving the club this summer at the end of their contracts.

The Lady Black Cats confirmed the news via an update on their official club website this afternoon.

Maltese international Farrugia made 18 appearances for the Wearside club in the FA Women’s Championship this season in which she scored one goal while midfielder Blakey made nine league appearances. Young defender Burt was largely an unused substitute for Sunderland in 2021/2022 with the player’s only outing coming in her side’s 7-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup.

Sunderland have confirmed that defender Abby Towers and forward Emily Hutchinson will stay with the club in the short term as they look to make successful returns from injury while the future of Grace Boyes is still under discussion.

The Lady Black Cats announced earlier today that Keira Ramshaw, Emma Kelly, Emily Scarr, Louise Griffiths and Jessica Brown have signed new deals with the club for next season. It has been also confirmed that Libbi McInnes, Grace McCatty, Abbey Joice, Megan Beer, Holly Manders, Claudia Moan, Allison Cowling, Faye Mullen, Grace Ede and Katy Watson are remaining with the club. Neve Herron was already under contract for next season.
