Aston Villa confirm departure of midfielder Arthur

Aston Villa have confirmed that midfielder Chloë Arthur will leave the club this summer upon the expiry of her contract.

The Villans announced the news earlier this afternoon via a post on their official club website.

Arthur joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 following the club’s promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League. The Scotland international has helped The Villans to establish themselves in the top flight in her two years with the club. Arther has made 40 appearances for Aston Villa in all competitions while she has netted one goal. The midfielder made 17 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League for Carla Ward’s side this season as they recorded a ninth-place finish.

Arthur’s next career move is not yet known, although it would be no surprise to see her remain in the English top flight. The midfielder has played her football in England for the last six years. In 2016, she joined Bristol City where she spent two seasons before moving to Birmingham City. Arthur then spent two years with the Blues before joining latest club Aston Villa.

Five players have now had their Aston Villa exits confirmed this summer. Arthur joins Jodie Hutton, Nat Haigh, Shania Hayles and Sophie Haywood in leaving the Midlands club.
