German international Ramona Petzelberger has left Aston Villa at the end of her contract according to reports on The Villans’ official club website.
The 29-year-old Essen-born midfielder has spent the last two seasons with Aston Villa but she is now looking to take up a fresh challenge in the game after declining the club’s offer of a new contract.
In her two seasons at The Banks’s Stadium, Petzelberger has made 30 appearances for Aston Villa in the Barclays Women’s Super League while she has scored six goals. In her first campaign, Petzelberger helped Aston Villa to avoid relegation back to the Barclays Women’s Championship before starring for the club in an improved campaign in 2021/2022.
Petzelberger’s performances for The Villans have not gone unnoticed by national team boss Martina Voss-Tecklenburg with the player having been handed a surprise call-up to the Germany squad for the Arnold Clark Cup back in February. The midfielder is still awaiting her senior debut for the nation.
Petzelberger should not be short of offers for her services. Prior to her move to Aston Villa in summer 2020, the player had spent her entire career playing her football back home in Germany. It will be interesting to see whether she will now return to the FLYERALARM Frauen-Bundesliga next season.
