Finland captain Korpela believes that anything is possible says teammate Kollanen

Finland forward Heidi Kollanen says that captain Tinja-Riikka Korpela believes that anything is possible and that vision will fuel the hopes of the team at this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO.

Anna Signeul’s side face an uphill task to qualify from Group B at this summer’s tournament with Finland having been paired with Germany, Spain and Denmark.

Many have already written off Finland’s chances of qualification from their group but Kollanen says that the team’s captain Korpela is pushing home the message that anything is possible.

“I think she is the player who believes that we can win every game, beat every opponent,” Kollanen told FAWSL Full-Time. “She has the belief that when we play our best game, the sky is the limit. She believes in us 100%.”

Korpela impressed with her club Tottenham Hotspur in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. The veteran keeper helped The Lilywhites to record their highest-ever league placing off the back of some exceptional personal displays. Kollanen went on to say that she believes that Korpela is going into the EUROs in great form.

She said “I think that she performs very well every time with the national team and I know that she has also been performing very well for her club. She is a very important player for us and her performing well helps us win games and do well.

“I think she is one of the very top goalkeepers, she has the experience and she knows her strengths. When she performs to her best levels, she can keep us in the game.”

Finland kick-off their UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 campaign with a match against Spain in Milton Keynes on Friday.
