Durham club captain Wilson signs new deal

Durham club captain Sarah Wilson has signed a new contract with the club for the upcoming season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Durham this afternoon.

The 30-year-old centre-back is very much a club legend and she will now take her Durham career into yet another season.

Wilson has been on Durham’s books since joining the club from Newcastle United in 2014. She soon claimed the captain’s armband and has chalked up 175 appearances for the club in all competitions. Wilson has developed well along with the team and she will be keen to reach yet another new level in 2022/2023.

After signing on again with The Wildcats, Wilson said “I’m absolutely delighted to be staying with the club next season. I love everything about this club, the values and what we are trying to achieve. I’m really excited to be a part of this squad.

“It’s incredible and so exciting for the club (to go full-time). There has been so much work gone into making this happen, and I am very grateful to have the opportunity. It’s something that I’ve dreamed of being able to do since I first started playing when I was eight years old. Personally, I didn’t think I would ever get the chance so it’s an opportunity that I’m going to grab with both hands.

“The direction this club is moving in is something to be very excited about, especially for our younger players coming though.”

News of Wilson’s new deal comes off the back of The Wildcats adding former England forward Jess Clarke to their squad for the upcoming season.
