Southampton complete signing of former Leicester City goalkeeper Harris

Southampton have completed the signing of former Leicester City goalkeeper Sophie Harris according to reports on The Saints’ official club website.

The 27-year-old moves to the South Coast club after spending the last 18 months with former club Leicester City. She joined The Foxes in January 2021 as cover for first choice goalkeeper Kirstie Levell with Demi Lambourne out injured. Harris won the Barclays Women’s Championship title with the East Midlands club and stayed on with them last season. The keeper made two appearances for Leicester City in all competitions in 2021/2022.

Harris will be hoping to get more minutes with new club Southampton as they embark on their journey in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

After completing the signing of Harris, Southampton boss Marieanne Spacey-Cale said “Sophie was the ideal person to come in for us. She’s a really high quality goalkeeper who’s played at the highest level in the Women’s Super League.

“Kayla (Rendell) is a fantastic goalkeeper and Sophie is coming in to challenge her but they’re already bonding and the level of the goalkeeping sessions has shot up; she’s bringing in that quality and competition element which can only help that goalkeepers union thrive.”

Harris is Southampton’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
