‘Our fans are probably the best fans’ – Arsenal’s Miedema hails Dutch sea of orange

Arsenal forward Vivianne Miedema has reiterated the fact that she believes that the Dutch fans are the very best in women’s football.

Miedema was a member of a Netherlands side which drew 1-1 with Sweden at Bramall Lane in Sheffield last night. The South Yorkshire city was painted orange and yellow yesterday as fans of both nations filled the streets with their respective teams’ jerseys.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Arsenal and Netherlands forward Miedema said that the Dutch fans are the best in football, although the Swedes will dispute those claims.

“I didn’t see much before the game but my mum and dad were part of that and they’ve said that it was amazing,” Miedema said. “I’ve said it so many times before, our fans are probably the best fans.

“There were a lot of Swedish fans as well which was amazing, I think the atmosphere was great for both teams and we are really lucky to have those fans with us.”

On the pitch, all four teams in Group C have one point after the first round of matches. Miedema went on to say that there is lots of work still to be done to reach the quarter-finals.

She said “We’ve obviously seen the first 45 minutes of the other game today and I think they are two good teams. On paper, Sweden is probably the toughest one but I don’t think that we can take any of them lightly.

“We have got three days in between and we need to be ready again on Wednesday. It is going to be a completely different game but we need to prepare as well as we can, it is definitely not going to be easy.

The Netherlands’ next game is against Portugal and kicks-off at 8pm on Wednesday evening.
