Full-back Mitchell signs new one-year deal with Reading

Reading full-back Emma Mitchell has signed a new one-year contract with the club according to reports on The Royals’ official club website.

Mitchell missed last season due to her giving birth and going on maternity leave but she is now back in training and preparing for the new campaign.

Reading signed Mitchell in summer 2020 after the player left former club Arsenal. The Scot made 14 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances for The Royals in her first season at the Select Car Leasing Stadium. The defender’s return to Kelly Chambers’ squad has handed the Berkshire club a real boost going into the 2022/2023 campaign.

After signing on again with Reading, Mitchell said “I’ve known for a few weeks now that I’m coming back, and yesterday being on the pitch for the first time with the girls was probably a mixture of emotions.

“It was the first day that I left Innes at the nursery and wasn’t really sure how she was going to be, but she settled really well which was really good and, you know, it’s almost like coming here, you get a little bit of a break. Like you can just switch off a little bit after being a Mum 24/7 for eight months straight, but not that I’m complaining as it’s been brilliant.

“So it was really nice to be able to be back, and get back on the pitch with the girls.”

Mitchell could make her Reading return against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
