Former Chelsea attacker Lloyd-Smith joins Southampton

Former Chelsea attacker Lexi Lloyd-Smith has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Southampton ahead of the new season.

The Saints announced the news this evening via a post on their official club website.

The teenager joins Southampton following a short spell in the United States with South Alabama Jaguars. Lloyd-Smith dazzled during her time in the Chelsea academy system and she was named on the bench for The Blues at senior level. The forward joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic for a brief spell in early 2021 before her move Stateside.

After joining Southampton, Lloyd-Smith said “I’m really excited to get started. I think this is a really great club to continue my journey in the industry.

“The facilities already show you something – the setup in terms of getting the girls involved and being at the facilities where the men are – I think it’s just a great shout to come here.

“The team have just been promoted to the Championship so it’s a great time to show everyone what we’ve got.

“The girls have welcomed me really well and I can’t wait to get started.”

Lloyd-Smith has become Southampton boss Spacey-Cale’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window following the additions of Paige Peake, Beth Lumsden, Sophie Harris and Megan Wynne.
