Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of young defender Evie Smith.
The Lancashire club confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this morning.
The teenager moves to The Sir Tom Finney Stadium after leaving former club Liverpool at the end of last season. Smith came through the Merseyside club’s youth ranks, although she didn’t make a senior appearance for the club. The defender spent eight years with Liverpool after joining the club at the age of 11.
On the international stage, Smith has represented England up to and including Under-18 level. She featured in a friendly between England Under-18s and her new club Blackburn Rovers back in 2020.
Smith has become Blackburn Rovers manager Gemma Donnelly’s first signing of the summer transfer window. The capture of the full-back is a sign that Donnelly will again stick to her philosophy of picking up some of the nation’s best up and coming talent with the aim of developing them into quality senior footballers.
Blackburn Rovers have retained the services of a large segment of last season’s squad but numbers are still low. Manager Donnelly is therefore expected to make several more new additions before the new season kicks-off next month.
